IT’S BUSINESS AS USUAL!

The Sophie Edwards School of Dance was founded in Hertford in 2000 to teach children from three to eighteen years old in ballet, modern, tap, national and musical theatre. The school has grown from year to year and now has over 100 pupils.

We are committed to helping all of our pupils to maximise their dancing and performing abilities, to instil self-confidence and to enjoy working in a friendly atmosphere of mutual support and commitment to learning.

The School's activities fall into three principal categories:-

Classwork

Classes are held Mondays to Saturdays catering for every age from three to eighteen years old. As the foundation for all other disciplines, ballet is attended by almost all pupils; most also attend some or all of modern, tap, national and musical theatre. Classwork (other than musical theatre) is based on the ISTD syllabus for the respective disciplines and leads to regular examinations.

The Annual Show

What many see as the highlight of the year is the Annual Show, which is held at the Campus West Theatre, Welwyn Garden City. The entire School appears in the Show, which usually takes one or more well known musicals as its theme and which is hugely popular with the pupils and the audiences alike.

Festivals

Each year, quarter or more of our pupils appear at festivals throughout the region, in competition with other schools. Festivals provide excellent experience in public performance for those able to offer the extra time and commitment involved, as well as leaving children and parents alike with some of their most cherished memories of a young life in dance.
